SONiC Booth Demos at OCP EMEA 2025

With the projected growth of AI, SONiC plays a critical role in enabling enterprises to deliver AIaaS. This demo will offer a method to cost effectively optimize the usage of SONiC infrastructure for running training and inference in a multi-tenant environment required by AIaaS provider. The presentation will delve into the obstacles faced by customers in tuning Scale-Out fabrics running SONiC. In a multi-tenant environment, usage of GPU and Storage platforms needs to be optimized. This presentation highlight SONiC capabilities and the usage of those features in simplifying deployment and orchestration of the AI backend scale-out fabric, and tuning of the fabric to meeting the compute and storage demands required by tenant jobs. The demo concludes by calling to action the SONiC community to continue to innovate in delivering lossless SONiC based ethernet infrastructure required for meaningful adoption of the Ethernet as protocol of choice for backend AI fabric.

The OpenLAN community is transforming edge networking by enabling flexible, efficient, and scalable solutions managed from the cloud. The community started by defining an open interface for cloud management, allowing organizations to seamlessly manage WiFi access points and switches coming from different community members.
While the benefits were significant, it came with challenges, including meeting enterprise feature demands, managing PoE complexities and integrating with diverse Network Operating Systems.
The OpenLAN Switching (OLS) community is now moving to the next step, overcoming the diverse network operating systems, by creating the ‘OLS NOS’: an open-source solution that meets the edge LAN needs, offering advanced PoE-enabled hardware, cost efficiency, streamlined infrastructure, vendor independence, and optimized performance for smaller-scale environments.

The SONiC community is actively evolving to meet enterprise network demands, integrating features like Power over Ethernet (PoE). Initially tailored for large-scale data centers, SONiC's modular, scalable architecture now extends flexibility to enterprise environments. PoE integration enables devices to receive power and data via Ethernet, streamlining infrastructure and reducing costs. However, implementing PoE in SONiC presents challenges, including hardware compatibility, standard compliance, complex power management, and adapting SONiC's data center-focused architecture to edge-specific needs. PLVision drives PoE development within the PENS workgroup.

Collaboration spans hardware manufacturers and software developers, ensuring robust support and rapid development. These advancements expand SONiC's utility and competitiveness in modern enterprise networking.

This demo explores the integration of SONiC and VPP (Vector Packet Processing) to achieve high-performance software networking. We will walk through the seamless deployment of a prebuilt SONiC-VPP image, demonstrating how to set up and configure the environment directly from a GitHub repository. Attendees will see how SONiC’s control plane applies configurations to the VPP dataplane and gain insights into extensive performance metrics using FD.io CSIT test results. This demo is ideal for engineers and architects looking to leverage SONiC and VPP for scalable, high-performance networking solutions in cloud and data center environments.
